Abstract

Accordion and bayan art has experienced rapid development over the past century and today holds a significant place in culture, drawing interest from many composers, performers, and scholars. The versatility of these instruments is highlighted by their broad capacity to perform music in a wide range of styles (from folk to academic) and their successful combination with various other instruments. At the turn of the centuries, changes in global culture are marked by experiments and explorations of genre and stylistic masks, which also affected accordion and bayan art, where in memoriam works have taken a special place. When exploring the global facets of accordion and bayan art, special attention is drawn to Croatian accordion culture, where the accordion serves as a symbol of musicianship and has a long history of origin in Croatia. Along with a rich history, Croatian culture is filled with artists with a national core, who care for the development of the country’s creative life and the preservation of its history and prominent names in the artistic memory chest (in memorial works). A significant contribution to contemporary Croatian culture, especially musical culture, was made by Croatian composer and accordionist Davor Bobić. His work is a powerful manifestation of national character in 21st-century musical art.
