Abstract

This article describes briefly the memorial genre and gives examples of works by foreign and Ukrainian composers. In Ukraine, there are no publications on the research and study of memorial works in the accordion culture. Therefore, ‘Romance for You’ by Ya. Oleksiv was taken as a sample of the memorial genre, which was analyzed in detail for the first time, the dramaturgy of the work, its figurative and emotional content, musical language, structure, and, most importantly, the traditions of in memoriam were identified. This article contains a description of the history of the creation of the composition and its appearance in the world of art, as in memoriam. At the same time, a parallel was drawn between the Concerto in c-moll and ‘Romance for You’ by Ya. Oleksiv, with the help of which common and distinctive features were revealed. Thanks to a detailed analysis of the work, the thematic unity of the musical material of the romance between its structural parts was revealed and the dominance of the narrative type of expression in it was emphasized. Lyrical character is central in the play ‘Romance for You’ by Ya. Oleksiv. The lyrical theme that appears in the first part of the romance acts as the so-called leitmotif of the entire work. The introduction (Moderato) has a declamatory mood and immediately introduces us to the emotional character of the work. The first part is the first presentation of the lyrical theme of the work, which conveys the image of tenderness, love and kindness. The second part (Molto cantabile) resembles a monologue with an atmosphere of bliss and peace. There is also a lyrical narrative character. Both parts have a wave-like drama, where, gaining strength in the climax, everything returns to a state of calm. A peculiar feature of a romance is the presence of an epilogue written in the form of a fugue. The final part of the work emphasizes the lyrical nature of the romance, again combining tenderness, delicacy and elegiac. A distinctive feature of the epilogue is its presentation of musical material in the form of a dialogue. ‘Romance for you’ by Ya. Oleksiv is a vivid example of the memorial genre in accordion-accordion works. The traditions of in memoriam are manifested here in the predominance of the narrative type of expression, the lyrical image that will return to its beginning at any culminating moment, in the appeal to the fugue form, as well as in the significant role of elegiac, chant and nostalgic moods.
