For many centuries, the activities of representatives of bandura art supported the morale of Ukrainians during difficult times of war and periods of repression. In the course of the research, we can observe how the bandura repertoire reflected the people’s desire to fight for freedom, the nation’s moral values, and how history was sung through the ages. With the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine in 2022, the young generation of contemporary bandurists began to actively support the Ukrainian people. Accordingly, we can trace how the centuries-old musical tradition continues linearly, demonstrating the mission of bandura art in particular. So, accordingly, we can talk about bandura art not only as an artistic calling card of Ukraine, but also as an embodiment of the national spirit and cultural code of Ukrainians. The article analyses samples of the bandura repertoire at different stages of the history of Ukraine as well as the stages of development of bandura art as a whole. The work also highlights the features of modern bandura art. The development of “contemporary bandura” is connected with the appearance of bandura performers at mass cultural and artistic events with modern popular musical material; it dates back to the 2010s and continues to this day. For more than 10 years, bandur players have been actively working on popularising the instrument for a mass audience. The work highlights the activities of representatives of “contemporary bandura art”, namely Yaroslav Dzhus, Maryna Krut, Georgy Matviiv, and Anastasia Voytiuk. The author also analyses their artistic activity and musical creativity. With the help of bandura, today cultural traditions are revived and the latest art is created, the high level of which is successfully demonstrated to the world art community.
