Abstract

The article deals with the guitar art of Lviv at the stage of its formation as a professional form of musical creativity. The closeness of the design and sound of the European guitar to Ukrainian folk instruments (torban and kobza) was noted, which contributed to its organic inclusion in the Ukrainian performance compendium. The first prominent Ukrainian guitarists, Ivan Khandoshko from Poltava region, Havrylo Rachynsky from Chernihiv region and Marko Sokolovsky from Zhytomyr region, who wrote works for the guitar, carried out concert activities in Ukraine and number of Western European countries and were recognized as unsurpassed virtuoso, were singled out. The purpose of the article is to analyze the origins of guitar art in Lviv and their influence on the formation of professional guitar education in the city. The scientific novelty lies in the first study of the problems of professional guitar art in Lviv at the stage of its formation and in the collection of the first musical works and teaching aids in Lviv. Based on the materials of Lviv periodical sources the German-language magazine «Mnemosyne» and the Polish newspaper «Dziennik literacki», the first concerts in Lviv by highly professional Western guitarists, whose art contributed to drawing attention to the guitar and changed the attitude of Lviv residents to learning to play and performing the guitar repertoire, were singled out. Based on the works of V. Sydorenko, A. Kovalenko, I. Shramko, Y. Povrozniak, the origins of guitar art and the first steps towards the formation of guitar education in Lviv were clarified. Using the method of analysis of the source base existing in sheetmusic archives, the first most popular collections of works and teaching aids which laid the foundation for the organization of guitar education in the city, were established. Using musicological and historiographical methods, the effectiveness of the measures taken in the development of professional guitar art has been proven.
