CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC ACTIVITY OF IGOR SONEVITSKY IN THE 1950s and 1960s (on the basis of archival materials)

Abstract

The purpose of the research. The purpose of the article is the characteristic of the creative activity of I. Sonevytskyi in the 1950s and 1960s in the context of the cultural and artistic life of the Ukrainian diaspora in the United States. The methodology combines the use of analytical and empirical methods of work, which made it possible to formulate a general concept as to the significance of artistic events of this period for Ukrainian culture and the personality of Igor Sonevitsky in particular. The scientific novelty of the article is that, to the study of the materials of Igor Sonevytskyi's archive, we get convincing evidence in the active cultural life of the Ukrainian diaspora, which helped preserve the sense of belonging to the Ukrainian nation in the United States. The archival sources reveal the active participation of I. Sonevytskyi in various projects, which is a convincing evidence of the role of personality in the development of the artistic life of Ukrainians outside the ethnic lands. Conclusions. The figure of Sonevytskyi is a vivid example of the artist's ministry for the benefit of the public idea, which leads to a rethinking of many of the subjective positions of the present and emphasizes the importance of attracting the archive materials to a more detailed study of the trends in the socio-cultural life of the diaspora. The cultural and artistic activity of Igor Sonevytskyi testifies to the organization of diverse events devoted to significant events and prominent personalities of the Ukrainian state. The materials of the archive confirm his participation in these events not only as the organizer, but also as a composer, accompanist, conductor, pianist, lecturer. Thus, I. Sonevytskyi contri-buted to the promotion of Ukrainian culture and the improvement of artistic professionalism.
