Abstract

The purpose of the research. The aim of the article is to highlight the evolutionary processes in the East Slavonic spiritual song repertoire of the end of the 17th – 18th century using the example of the characteristics of its subject matter. Research methodology involves a combination of historical, cultural, liturgical, comparative, textual, contextual methods, with the help of which repertory changes were shown in the corpus of songs of the calendar cycle in accordance with the needs of church communities of various Christian denominations in the East Slavic lands. Scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time evolutionary processes in the East Slavonic spiritual song repertoire of the end of the 17th – 18th century through characteristics of its thematic content were analyzed. Conclusions. The heterogeneity of the East Slavonic spiritual song is reflected in the corpus of songs on a calendar theme. The Ukrainian spiritual song repertoire in extraliturgical and paraliturgical branches expanded due to an increase in the number of works tied to the church calendar. The need for their streamlining has led to the appeal to the structure of a Western European songbook, whose consistency facilitated the codification of the Ukrainian-Belarusian spiritual song repertoire of the 17th and 18th centuries. Belarusian- Ukrainian influence of the last third of the 17th century set the Western vector of the Russian spiritual song, however the confessional peculiarities slowed down the formation of its liturgical branch and the codification of the repertoire in a liturgical type songbook, since in the Russian tradition spiritual songs were viewed not as a form of church singing, but as a kind of home prayer practice, where there was no close connection with the church calendar, which approximated the Russian tradition of singing spiritual songs with its generalized perception of time to the Protestant.
