STRING QUARTET BY V. FLYS IN THE INTERPRETIVE DISCOURSE OF THE COMPOSER'S WORK (TO THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH)

Abstract

The article examines one of the outstanding works of the Lviv composer, theoretician and teacher Volodymyr Vasylovich Flys (1924–1987) – String Quartet. It is emphasized the need to return to the active concert-didactic circulation of V. Flys's compositional work, undeservedly forced out of the concert-pedagogical practice due to unfavorable social and political circumstances. The life and creative path of the artist is briefly presented, who began his studies at the Berlin Conservatory, later went through Stalin's camps, and after his return continued his studies and work at the Lviv Conservatory named after M.V. Lysenko, as a theoretician, together with J. Jakubyaka, prepared a series of solfeggio textbooks for music schools. His work can serve as an example of the tragic fate of a Ukrainian intellectual who, due to the repression of the communist authorities, was unable to fully realize his powerful creative and scientific potential, and in the future, his legacy – an important part. Ukrainian musical culture of the middle of the 20th century – has not been properly researched. His compositional works, although few, include such valuable monuments as the Symphony, the symphonic poem "Yarem Galaida", the cantata "Call, Carpathians", vocal, violin and piano miniatures, arrangements of folk songs. Therefore, the understanding of his chamberinstrumental creativity has not yet become an object of independent research, and therefore deserves special attention. In particular, this applies to the string quartet, regarding which the author of the article offers his own interpretation concept, focusing on the personal late-romantic foundations of the composer's individual style.
