The article considers the basic principles of teaching music in modern German secondary schools with a focus on preserving the national tradition. The ideal of musical life in German society for many centuries has been making music together, a sublime experience of co-creation, for example, in a choir, in ensembles and in an orchestra. Accordingly, we now primarily need multidisciplinary, creative and well-trained musicians who are able to shape musical needs in a wide range of societies, cultivate aesthetic tastes and encourage people of different professions to participate in different musical groups. The university field of music pedagogy of a wide profile, which trains school musicians, is very popular and in demand in Germany. One of the essential prerequisites for the popularity of the profession is that it not only provides a reliable material and social foundation for future careers - the teaching profession in our country has the status of a civil servant with all its advantages - but also opens the prospect of many other activities outside school, to stimulate further special qualification of the graduate.
