EUGENE TSEHELSKYI AS THE EDUCATOR OF THE NEW GENERATION OF THE LVIV “PRAGUE SCHOOL”

Abstract

Among the representatives of Ukrainian music culture western emigration, who left a significant cultural heritage, should be mentioned Eugene Tsehelskyi. He graduated the Prague Conservatory. He was the director of Higher Music Institute named after Lysenko (in Przemysl), violinist and teacher, who gave concerts, organizer of musical life in Galicia as a head of the music department of the Institute of Folk Art in the Ukrainian Central Committee in Lviv. Artist activity associated with the fundamental theoretical studies, depth study and analysis of social and artistic events that occurred in Western Ukraine at the beginning of the twentieth century. The purpose of the article is to highlight the role of Eugene Tsehelskyi in the process of professionalization of Ukrainian culture in Galicia, especially in the field of music and teaching. Novelty of the topic is to expand the role of the artist as a teacher, violinist, scientist, highly educated person. The work of musician was serious and multifaceted in such difficult social and political con-ditions. A wide range of vocational training that he received, communication with outstanding musicians contributed to the fact that in the circle of his interests appeared concerts, scientific, journalistic activities. It is not only meets the requirements of contemporary professional musi-cal performance and research, but also contributed to the education of national consciousness, spread knowledge of human values and spiritual enrichment of the nation. Contribution to musical and aesthetic education of the population this artist should be considered in several sections: – social, public and educational activities as a director of Przemysl branch of the Higher Music Institute named after Lysenko; – practical teaching activity as a teacher of violin; – development of methodological foundations of actual problems violin pedagogy and perfor-mance. Educational activity of Eugene Tsehelskyi is a separate element of the process of becoming musical and aesthetic education of youth, his participation in the educational work supported the establishment of Ukrainian musical and pedagogical school, which in the first half of the twentieth century began confidently compete with other schools. Over the years musician teaching activity was associated with educational institutions in Lviv, Przemysl, with music schools, which operated in the camps for displaced people and music institutions of the United States, where the artist was in emigration. Since the question of writing, the education were the most important issues of the time, journalistic and methodical work Tsehelskyi were aimed at raising the level of Ukrainian cultural consciousness, raised the issue of education and education of youth, particularly in the violin instrumental performance. The absence or small amount of literature prompted the author to hard work in teaching field. Article "From the mysteries of violin technique" and "Violin Literature" consider the value of this perspective and is the contribution to the development of education and violin pedagogy. His work, combined European traditions and achievements of Galician artists, opens a new stage of development of Ukrainian culture in Galicia- transition from amateur to profes-sional art.
