Abstract

The author presents a review of Halyna Marchuk’s book “Bells: a Return to the Origins”. Halyna Marchuk dared to summarize the results of her 30 years of activities devoted to the study of bells and the promotion of their music. She rightly calls her ambitious in size and elegantly designed popular science book a kind of chronicle. The work relies on documenting the activities of the Stariy Lutsk Historical and Cultural Reserve regarding the creation of the unique Museum of Bells in Ukraine and organized festivals of bell ringers. The reviewer analyzed the painstaking work of Halyna Marchuk, who chronologically systematized significant factual material. It was emphasized not only the active participation of the book’s author in the revival of the tradition of bellringing art but also her efforts regarding the preservation of bells, their museumisation, passporting, in particular, the determination of musical characteristics, etc. The source base of the book is documents, including those from the private archive of Halyna Marchuk, correspondence materials, recorded memories, and unique photographs.
